Armenian Genocide Centennial – April 24, 1915

 

In Numbers:

1.5 MILLION – The number of Armenians killed between 1915-1917 by Ottoman Turks when they began their systematic campaign to destroy its Armenian population.

 

250 – Armenian intellectuals that were rounded up by Turks on April 24, 1915, in Constantinople (now Istanbul), beginning a massive wave of arrests, deportations and killings.

 

2,133,190 – The number of Armenians living in the Ottoman empire before 1914, according to the University of Minnesota’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

 

387,800 – The number of Armenians still left in the Ottoman Empire in 1922.

 

More than 20 countries have recognized the Armenian Genocide. Armenians around the world will commemorate the Armenian Genocide Centennial on April 24, 2015, with remembrance and the fight to end denial.
